Before old age arrives, it's essential to make peace with how we look now, so we can find peace with how we look then. Many of us struggle with confidence, often feeling the crushing weight of self-doubt. We seek constant validation from our loved ones and ourselves, whether it's in the mirror or through the lens of a selfie camera. But perhaps the key to true acceptance lies in embracing our raw, authentic selves today.
Often, our lack of self-confidence and body image issues are rooted in the past, in moments when we were harshly criticized, sometimes repeatedly. It's crucial to acknowledge that these criticisms were not our fault and to move toward a healthier, more positive self-image. Cultivating confidence requires time and consistency, engaging in activities that bring us fulfillment and gratification. As we redefine our self-worth through these meaningful actions, we begin to feel a shift—a growing boldness and a fierceness that allows us to live more fully and confidently.
One of the most challenging steps in this journey for me has been giving up sugar. My first attempt lasted quite a while, and now, in 2024, I’m in my second round of this no-sugar/low-sugar diet. I’ve cut out tea and coffee with sugar, chocolates, cakes, and other sweet temptations. I’ve committed to a no-sugar policy, though I understand there may be moments of indulgence on special occasions or during trips. However, the need to consume an entire piece of cake or a glass of hot chocolate has passed.
Initially, it was a difficult and, frankly, sad decision. I found it incredibly challenging, but as I got into the groove, I began to love it. I felt a detox happening inside me—a surge of positivity, peace, and boldness. Along with cutting sugar, I’ve also reduced my intake of oily and processed foods. For someone who loved English breakfasts, I gave up quite a lot. But trust me, it was worth it. Everyone will face challenging situations in life, often related to health or other critical areas, and these moments can be incredibly reforming and eye-opening.The past was amazing, and so will be the future. No regrets, and No repetitions of those regretful decisions. Over indulgence of anything is harmful, we need to learn to balance. Having balance is graceful. And to attain that grace you need perseverance and practise.
