Mental Health Awareness - Appearance and Metal Wellness

As we observe #MentalWellnessMonth and #MentalHealthAwareness Week, it's important to recognize the role of appearance in mental health, particularly the use of makeup. Makeup is more than a tool to enhance beauty; it is a powerful medium of self-expression. It allows us to be creative, experiment with our looks, and enhance our self-esteem and confidence. Feeling more prepared to face the day and easing social interactions by reducing self-consciousness are significant benefits of makeup.

We can be confident and feel beautiful without makeup, but using it is always a personal choice. Opting for harmless, chemical-free makeup like baby kajal or herbal lipstick is quite alright. Makeup can enhance presentability and empowerment, though it is not a necessity. It is crucial that this choice remains uninfluenced by external factors, including other people's opinions.

Makeup empowers by boosting our appearance and elevating our overall mental state. It also helps break stereotypes and promotes inclusivity, as makeup is for everyone in a healthy society. Gender roles should be broken and redefined over time. Beauty is timeless and transcends gender constraints. While we may have individual preferences for how men and women should look, we have no right to impose these preferences on others. Doing so reflects our own mental pressure and negatively impacts those under scrutiny.

Makeup is connected to diversity, style, belongingness, and acceptance. The right makeup materials lead to self-care and personal grooming. The point is to wear makeup that we like, not what someone else says looks good on us. I've seen people stop wearing makeup because their husband said so, because they feel "too old," or because someone made fun of them. This is wrong, and we all know that the mental trauma of such scrutiny is harmful. Let's be open to others' preferences and be non-judgmental.

Choosing to wear makeup does not mean someone is fake, vicious, or on the wrong path; that's just traditional nonsense. Let's empower each other and grow together!
