Mental health awareness was first recognized in America in 1949. In India, mental health awareness has evolved over time, with a significant milestone being the Mental Health Act of 1987. This act aimed to make better provisions for the treatment of mentally ill individuals and extended to the whole of India. As we all know, "Mental Health is a universal human right."
With the rise in mental health issues on a global scale, there was a 13 percent increase in mental health conditions and substance use disorders in 2017, with depression being a major contributor. This led to the enactment of "The Mental Healthcare Act, 2017" (MHCA 2017), which addresses patients' rights and sets moral and legal standards for mental health care. The law strongly emphasizes confidentiality, consent, and the right to mental health treatment.
This year’s (2024) theme is "Movement: Moving for our Mental Health," which signifies the relationship between physical wellness and mental wellness. This gym picture is from workout session and is dedicated to this year’s theme and cause. Personally, exercise has always been refreshing, and I can clearly distinguish the difference in my energy levels between when I was exercising regularly and when I wasn’t. Exercise in any form increases our energy levels and helps us think more positively.
A lot of rewiring happens when you are on a journey to improving your overall wellness. Your resilience, mind-body care, and contentment increase, leading to an elevated and gratifying lifestyle.
