The Lost Boys : 80's Horror Flick

Let me start by saying “ I always prefer the 80’s and 90’s movies compared to new movies because it has certain warmth and coziness that cannot be provided by today’s cinema. Let start by analysing how they set the town / how the town looks, where the story is happening and the houses shown. They are always beautiful and attention to detail is always highlighted. In horror movies, the danger is not just shown but they make us feel the danger by the right choice of music and visuals. In this hirror movie “The Lost Boys” which was released in 1987, that speaks about vampires ( creatures of the night) they first open with showing a little about the place called “santa carla” ( a fictional small town in california). They show the “horror” or “hidden secrets” of the town. The camera pans out into goths, missing notices, people who are u aware of the dangers enjoying their daily life, and the terror of the night.

Michael and sam along with their mother takes a road trip to Santa Carla to live with their grandfather (after divorce their mom is tight on money and the first thing on her list is to find a job for herself to support her family). Her sons on the other hand are attracted to the carnival. As a horror movie the director gives importance to the night life, he portrays the night life in santa carla. Lucy finds a job in a video store and starts to go on a date with the store owner Max. Michael on the other hand follows a girl called Star on the carnival and ends up biking with her gang where he drinks blood and ends up as a half vampire who needs to make his first kill for his complete transformation. Meanwhile sam meets two geeks in a comic book store of his own age, teenagers who ask him to read about vampire comic books, literally thrusts it to him everytime he goes to the store because of which sam is able to understand more about the vampire, he is able to identify his own brother. The geeks and sam join forces to find a way to deal with the vampire problem. This movie is a throughout entertainer and keeps us at the edge of our seats during the night scenes. The vampires are damn scary and the biking scenes are epic. There is also jokes all at the right places, timing is a great factor here. The choice of cast is brilliant and the style of 80’s, well they are the best. Even though not born in the 80’s I still am very much attracted to the simplicity and coziness of the time. It was better times, no smart phones, no fast paced world, everything was small town and nice, specially houses and family. The best thing was friendships, neighbourhood, not-knowing, the enthusiasm to discover things on our own. I hope people reading this also can related to what I am trying to convery. Anyway loved this movie, suggested to all horror lovers!
